Barnabás Holló: Sári Fedák in the leading role of Prince Bob by Jenő Huszka
Barnabás Holló’s painting was certainly made for an anniversary of the premiere of Huszka’s operetta. This is how Viktor Lányi (composer and writer) remembers the night of the premiere in 1925 in the Nyugat literary magazine:
‘In the tight vest of Prince Bob (…) Sári Fedák, this genial gentry-girl from Eastern Hungary, set the country on fire, and with the melody of In London, hey! Jenő Huszka, a so-far unknown Hungarian composer, instantly won the hearts of the Hungarian public, while the librettist Ferenc Martos, has remained, since then, faithful to the muse of the operetta.’
